Barron's Group is seeking a capable and confident junior full-stack developer to join to spearhead development of our premium, professional and daily newsletters products and related advisor ecosystem.

The ideal candidate listens to and communicates effectively with stakeholders, helping to optimize the newsletter ecosystem, driving innovation and constant improvement. Central to this role is an ability to build, test, and deploy working MVPs as well as enhancements to existing products to multiple environments, with attention to clarity, simplicity, expandability, and performance. Work is to be well-documented and maintained, with awareness of how one's code fits into the broader tech and graphics organizations. Lastly, Barron's is keen on keeping an eye open for naturally occurring synergistic opportunities - so as to not reinvent the wheel.

Responsibilities include:
  • Quickly building and deploying a basic, clean, and extendable MVPs and enhancements to core products.
  • Gathering feedback and usage information, via usage data and user interviews and partnering with the product team.
  • Maintaining and updating tools as needed (by humans) or necessary (security updates).
  • Clearly and thoroughly documenting work.
  • Awareness of and adherence to existing best practices when managing software in git & github.

Some familiarity with any or all of the following is a strong plus :

MongoDB or equivalent (DocumentDB/etc), SQL/Postgres, and/or Key-value DBs.

Familiarity with some popular frameworks is also a plus. Current internal tools use a mix of:

React. Semantic-UI, and Bootstrap, alongside internal libraries.

Comfortable with spreadsheets. Big plus if familiar with web-pertinent skills within the Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent visual software (Sketch, Figma), in order to be able to quickly handle image & asset-related needs.

The ability to communicate clearly and with precision is assumed.

Strong working knowledge of:

HTML & CSS, with a strong emphasis on page-speed and performance.

JS, Node & NPM.

Git & Github.

Build and deployment, primarily via Webpack and Gulp.
AWS, Cloudfront, S3.

Managing templates & templating engines.

Newrelic or equivalent system for monitoring server and client performance and usage.
