Computational Sciences, the central computational biology R&D department at The Jackson Laboratory, is seeking a Computational Scientist who will participate in its collaborative computational biology program and make leading contributions to the cutting-edge projects in statistical/quantitative genetics and integrative genomic analysis at the interface of mammalian and human genetics at The Jackson Laboratory.The successful candidate is expected to independently establish collaborations within JAX and to provide leadership in grant applications as Co-I/multi-PI, or leadership towards a significant scientific program at JAX. The major areas of research at JAX include cancer biology, aging, addiction biology, immunology, metabolic disorders, neurobiology, and stem cell & developmental biology.
The preferred location of this role is Bar Harbor, ME, however the role can also be located in Farmington, CT.
* Computational Scientist carries out computational and/or biostatisical analysis of biomedical datasets starting from experimental design to the analysis of the dataset. Other responsibilities include algorithm implementation (as needed), expert reasoning and leadership of projects. Present the results both internally and external at conferences and workshops and contributes the preparation of manuscripts in a significant manner. * Computational Scientist independently establishes collaborations within The Jackson Laboratory, provide expert reasoning to the projects relevant to the scientist's disciplines of research disciplines, lead or co-lead grant writing in collaboration with the researchers at JAX as demonstrated by role as PI and co-I in the grant applications. A scientist also demonstrates strong potential to carrying out the collaborative biostatistics/statistical genetics program independently * Participate in departmental and project activities such as developing pipelines, participating in conducting courses and workshops at JAX, provide leading contributions to grant applications, mentoring/supervising students and scientists, participating in CS Helpdesk and presenting results and processes to JAX community and at conferences and workshops as assigned
* Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Bioinformatics research, excluding time spent to obtain PhD. Candidates with significant pre-doctoral experience in the relevant research area as a researcher and demonstrated research track record during the pre-doctoral period will also be considered. * Ability to establish research and mentoring leadership in addition to co-lead obtaining grant funds * Demonstrated experience managing projects and collaborations. * Experience working within cross-species data analysis would be a plus * Experience with \"omics\" data analysis and statistical genetics & Biostatistics
