Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, this external role will spend the majority of time out of the office cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors and prospects, often in collaboration with senior leadership and scientists. The majority of the prospect and donor portfolio are individuals but the role will also provide consultative council to major and principal gifts staff in the management of key prospects capable of significant ($1M+) gifts to the Jackson Laboratory.The ideal candidate is a creative and achievement-oriented individual who thrives in an entrepreneurial and results-measuring environment. They are detail-oriented, have experience working with high impact individuals and foundations, and can successfully manage multiple priorities and donor relationships simultaneously.Responsibilities* Expand the JAX Planned Giving Program through strategic and creative initiatives.* Build and Maintain a Planned Giving Program that includes strong administrative procedures, communications and marketing, strategic and proactive outreach, stewardship activities, prospect identification and cultivation.* Collaborate with JAX fundraising staff on creative solicitation and stewardship strategies for expanding our existing donor pool.* Prepare written proposals, informational materials, and other collateral to secure gifts in cooperation with the development staff.* Build strong working relationships with JAX staff and faculty.* Participate as necessary in development events.Qualifications* Bachelor's degree required, and advanced degree (J.D.) would be preferred.* At least eight (8) years of experience in fundraising, or related field, at an academic, medical or research institution.* Excellent initiative and organizational skills to prioritize tasks, projects, and workflow, and strong independent judgment regarding best use of time.* Proven interpersonal skills that builds confidence and trust with donors, colleagues and senior leadership.* Excellent written and oral communication, negotiation, organizational, analytical and fundraising skills, including the ability to accurately interpret financial information and manage data.* Experience with Raiser's Edge and PG Calc software is highly desirable.* Must be able to travel within the Northeast US and Nationally.About UsThe Jackson Laboratory (JAX, www.jax.org) is a nonprofit biomedical research institute with over 2,300 employees whose mission is to discover precise genomic solutions for human disease and empower the global biomedical community in the shared quest to improve human health.
