The Data Services Team within Research Information Technologies is on a mission is to enable, facilitate, and accelerate research and discovery at the Jackson Laboratory (JAX).nbsp;nbsp; Reaching this goal by working both internally and externally with other research institutions, JAX is leading this mission of data democratization, open science, and best practices of data governance, provenance, software development, high performance computing, cloud computing. The Data Services Team supports this goal by applying best-in-class approaches for data acquisition (including metadata capture), linked-data infrastructure supporting a future of infrastructure flexibility, and scalability.nbsp;nbsp;
Senior Computational Scientists will closely work with the research faculty amp; genetic resource scientists across all three campuses of The JAX on projects of wide ranging complexity from a diverse array of biomedical disciplines such as cancer biology, ageing, immunology, infectious diseases, metabolomics, neural disorders, muscular disorders, Biostatistics amp; Statistical Genetics, and stem cell amp; developmental biology.
* Carries out Computational analysis of omics data, algorithm implementation as well as bioinformatics programming and expert reasoning and leadership for the projects. Evaluate data for quality assurance and mining bioinformatics databases. Present the results at the international conferences and workshops and contributes the preparation of manuscripts. * Independently establishes collaborations within The Jackson Laboratory, providing expert reasoning to the projects relevant to the scientistrsquo;s disciplines of research, leading or co-leading grant writing consistently in collaboration with the researchers at The Jax as demonstrated by role as PI and co-I in the grant applications. * Participates in departmental and project activities such as developing pipelines, participating in conducting courses and workshops at JAX, provide leading contributions to grant applications, mentoring students and scientists, participating in CS Helpdesk amp; preparing policies for CS operations, and presenting results amp; processes to JAX community and at conferences and workshops as assigned. * Establishes collaborations within The Jackson Laboratory, provide expert reasoning to the projects relevant to the disciplines, contribute to grant writing in conjunction with the researchers at The Jax.
* PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biostatistics or any relevant area. * Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in Bioinformatics research, excluding time spent to obtain PhD. Candidates with significant pre-doctoral experience in the relevant research area as a researcher and demonstrated research track record during the pre-doctoral period will also be considered. * Demonstrated ability to establish research and mentoring leadership in addition to lead obtaining grant funds to support part of the group led by the Senior Computational Scientist. * Successful candidates demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Demonstrated experience managing projects and collaborations. * Prior successes in and desire to contribute to team projects on an ongoing basis is a must.
