Description Tisch Library supports Tufts School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering, providing the services and resources to assist members of the Tufts community in their teaching, learning and research. Tisch Library provides collections, expertise, and technology-rich environments to support the creation and dissemination of scholarship. The Resource Management and Repository Services Department provides support for the creation, management, and preservation of scholarship. The department cultivates teamwork and collaborative relationships within and outside Tisch Library to provide high-quality resources and services for our users.
The Collection Development Librarian will provide leadership and oversight of Tisch Library collections, manage the materials budget, and collaborate with the other Tufts libraries on the development of shared collections.
The Collection Development Librarian will oversee collection development of journals, books, databases, datasets, etc. for Tisch, Lilly, and the SMFA libraries.
The Collection Development Librarian will guide and assist subject liaisons with their collection responsibilities, including evaluation, selection, budget management, and outreach to faculty about library collections. Act as subject liaison to one or more academic departments or programs providing instruction, collection development and outreach support.
The Librarian will be the primary point person for vendor negotiations:
Effectively collaborate with colleagues regarding shared licenses across the Tufts libraries, and consortia
Oversee implementation, evaluation, and funding of approval plans
Analyze collections data to improve understanding of usage, evaluate return on investment, and support decision making around selection and renewals.
The Librarian will also manage print retention, weeding and storage projects, including Tufts participation in shared print initiatives such as EAST and HathiTrust.
The Librarian will provide expertise regarding collections, trends in scholarly communication, developments in the publishing industry and shared library initiatives to inform and support Tisch Library collection development strategy.
The Collection Development Librarian will also participate in local, regional and national collection development initiatives.
Qualifications Basic Requirements:
MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution, or demonstrated equivalent through advanced degree and extensive library experience in collections
Minimum of 5 years collection development experience in an academic library
Experience developing collections budgets and budget projections
Solid, successful contract negotiation experience
Demonstrated collaboration skills and ability to work across organizational boundaries
Strong analytical skills and experience with statistical analysis, including producing reports, visualizing data, and effectively communicating findings
Knowledge of current issues and trends in scholarly publishing, and shared collection development and management
Strong service orientation and commitment to sustaining an inclusive environment in a diverse community
At least 2 years supervisory experience
