Position Summary: This position reports to the President, UMMMC and works closely with Department Chairs, Clinical Program Leadership, Nursing Leaders, Medical Center and Medical Group leadership and UMMHC System administrative and financial leadership. Holds full strategic and operational responsibility for the annual achievement of assigned clinical, financial and operational goals that enhance clinical services and the departments education and research missions. The SVP is responsible for developing a data-driven business strategy and leading teams to effectively execute plans using LEAN management systems and tools that support growth and financial targets as well as continuous improvement in patient safety, quality, experience, operational efficiency, service and workforce engagement. Department Portfolio: The SVP portfolio will include the following departments, centers and functions, though the specific areas are expected to be fluid and evolve over time as business needs change: The SVP will serve as a critical partner with the Chair and administrative leadership of the Departments of Emergency Medicine, Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Radiation Oncology. In this capacity, the SVP will be responsible for advancing the clinical programs and services in these areas, as well as the academic teaching and clinical research missions. The SVP will also have oversight and coordination responsibility for the UMMMC Children s Medical Center and Cancer Center, as well as such critical hospital departments and functions as the Emergency Department & Emergency Services, Critical Care and the eICU program, and the inpatient Hospitalists program. Responsibilities: Working with clinical, administrative and financial leadership, develops multi-year strategic business plans for departments, centers, and programs under his/her responsibility Serve as a critical member of the President s SVP team and UMMMC Senior Leadership Team. Serves on several joint medical center, group, & system leadership teams, including Joint Leadership Team, Clinical Performance Council, & Combined MC/MG Council. Responsible for all operating and capital budgeting activities within assigned areas and functions, working to maximize return on investments, labor productivity, operational efficiencies, supply and purchased services value, etc. Works with operational areas to assure quality, safety patient satisfaction and employee engagement, applying a variety of Lean and other management system processes and tools. Leads robust process to monitor and track achievement towards goals including identifying key metrics, any serious risks related to finance, safety, quality, patient experience and employee engagement and develops appropriate corrective action plans to close gaps when goals are not being met. Recruits, develops and leads teams with focus on working with HR to build leadership and management capability to improve results. Understanding the needs for system integration, the SVP establishes protocols with peers, Entity Leads and Medical Group on issues surrounding processes for patient care, access, patient flow/throughput, billing and after care. Collaborates with clinical leaders, nursing leaders and administrators to provide oversight and development of cost-effectiveness systems of care and utilization control. Supports the optimization of electronic systems to enhance the reliability and efficiency of care delivery, in partnership with system informatics leadership. Collaborates with departmental and organizational leadership to support development and fundraising efforts. Sets a standard for leadership by developing highly productive and accountable relationships with all direct reports, and program leaders. Participates in the Administrator on Duty Rotation Chair and serve on a variety of UMMMC and UMMHC committees and task forces, as appropriate. Position Qualifications: Master's Degree, MBA or MPA in Health, Business Administration or related field. Minimum of eight to ten years of progressively more responsible management experience in an acute - care hospital or health care related business is required. Able to hold complex operational and financial discussions in relatively simple form. Demonstrated analytical, operational and financial skills. Able to work collaboratively with executives, peers and entry-level staff to create clarity from plan and build successful team outcomes.
