Job Summary

The Assistant Director for Internship and Employer Engagement for the School of Public Health and Health Sciences (SPHHS) is responsible for internship and job development, employer outreach and liaison and the support and supervision of students who are placed. Initiates and maintains contact with business, industrial and government offices in order to develop and maintain appropriate experiential internships/co-ops/job opportunities for students. Advises students of the program about Mt. Ida housing requirements. Works closely with and maintains liaison with faculty in academic departments, Mt. Ida campus staff, alumni, University Communications dept., and employers in order to publicize opportunities and recruit qualified students for the program. Maintains contact with employers to develop student positions and to maintain contractual agreements such as affiliation agreements and on boarding documentation with employers. Coordinates employer based field trips and shadowing opportunities.

Essential Functions

* In conjunction with the SPHHS Director for Career Planning and in alignment with the University's strategic plan, designs and implements a Mt Ida Internship/Coop for-credit program utilizing appropriate healthcare employers, hospitals, organizations within the greater Boston area and beyond.
* Cultivates and engages in finding new field experience opportunities with employers/organizations that would be most attractive for SPHHS majors with the goal of improving the number and range of internship and employment opportunities each semester including summer.
* Assists, orients and advises students of program credit requirements; advertises and conducts information sessions, meets with specific student groups, clubs, and organizations to communicate available opportunities.
* Facilitates the students' transition from the academic to the professional setting, serving in a problem-solving capacity during the internship or coop, collaboration with on-site supervisors, HR offices etc. to establish clear program objectives and learning experiences.
* Conducts on-site visits and interviews with students and employers to assess effectiveness within the organization and compliance with contractual agreements.
* Coordinates with student groups/clubs to organize employer based field-trips and shadowing opportunities.
* Collaborates with the faculty to integrate 12 credits of internship opportunities into the curriculum within each major. Maintains a strong relationship with the chairs of each department, advising staff, Development Office, and the Community and Dean's Advisory Board members to keep them informed.
* Assists SPHHS Career Planning office with planning and executing career fairs and employer information sessions.
* Collects student, employer, and alumni data via surveys and other assessment methods to compile quantitative data reports and summaries.
* Coordinates with University Communications and SPHHS departments and peer-led programs to gather and disseminate internship information for Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms with the aim of advertising and promoting all internship events and activities.
* Develops curriculum and teaches an internship or professional development soft skills class for students needing additional internship credits. This course will be taught either in-person at Mt. Ida in Newton or as a hybrid online/in-person course.
* Provides content related to the SPHHS Greater Boston Internship Program and resources information for the SPHHS website and is responsible for monitoring links and keeping content current and up-to-date.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

* A Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Public Health or other relevant field of study plus a minimum of three years' work experience with high school or college age students in a mentoring, advising, counseling, supervising or related role.
* Current knowledge of the job market, occupational outcomes of a variety of health disciplines and familiarity with recognized career guidance and job search tools required.
* Ability to use computers, excellent verbal and written communication skills, passion for helping students, and willingness to learn is a must.
* Proficient in understanding and utilizing database software such as Trello and Handshake.
* Demonstrates familiarity with employment trends and career opportunities for SPHHS majors.
* Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain working relationships with representatives of healthcare industries and organizations, government agencies and faculty and staff on campus, including other Mt. Ida Internship Coordinators in similar roles.
* Ability to communicate program goals and objectives to students, staff, and faculty; ability to communicate effectively and professionally both oral and written, public speaking experience a plus.
* Evidence and understanding and commitment to cultural and ethnic diversity.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

* Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Business, Human Resources, Public Health, or related field and two plus years of experience, with high school or college age students in a mentoring, advising, counseling, supervising or related role.
* Proficient with on-line recruiting.

Typical office environment.

Work Schedule

* M-F, 37.5 hours/week.
* Travel required, some evenings, and weekend hours as necessary
