Job Description: The Department of Anthropology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks to hire a scholar with a specialization in disease ecology for a tenure track position to begin September 1, 2020. PhD required at time of appointment. We are seeking talented applicants qualified for an Assistant Professor position. Under exceptional circumstances, highly qualified candidates at other ranks may receive consideration. The candidate is expected to have had and plan to continue field-based research to study health and disease within living populations in ethnographic contexts. We seek someone with a record of research and scholarly success, including plans for NSF and/or NIH grant proposals. Candidates employing biocultural, eco-social, and/or evolutionary frameworks in the study of disease ecology, health, and human biology are welcome, including an interest in the impacts of cultural factors such as developmental, economic, environmental, and political on the distribution and diversity of disease. Specializations might include biomarkers, epigenetics, infectious and/or chronic/metabolic disease, the microbiome, nutrition, reproductive ecology, or zoonotic disease ecology, as well as disease patterns and susceptibility as related to climate change, multispecies interactions, and structural inequalities. Geographic area of study is open. The department values and encourages research and teaching across the sub-disciplines of anthropology. The position will contribute to the expanding undergraduate concentrations in ?Medical Anthropology and Global Health? and ?Evolutionary Anthropology.? The department faculty participate in Five Colleges initiatives, including but not limited to the vibrant undergraduate certificate in Culture, Health, and Science and the graduate program in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology.
