Job Summary

Manage and produce print, web and social media communication leading to the advancement of the strategic goals of the department. Responsible for implementing a wide variety of student and alumni events and developing Alumni Relations.

Essential Functions

  • Manage the content of the department s website. Responsible for the ongoing development and upkeep of the website with fresh and timely content.
  • Develop and write feature ideas and content. Research and select story concepts and communicate with the parties involved to arrange for interviews. Write feature stories and news items for the web, including selecting photos and/or videos. Write, design, edit, produce and distribute electronic newsletters and other informational communication for current and prospective students and alumni.
  • Manage the department s online presence and promote the department in social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Pinterest. Share department news and events with college Communications staff, and collaborate with College staff as needed. Create and maintain public calendar of department events, and other public events that benefit department faculty, staff and students.
  • Oversee the creation of print promotional materials for student recruitment, program development, alumni development, and other purposes that advance the department s strategic goals.
  • Plan, develop and implement department events and activities in collaboration with the Chair that align with the strategic goals of the department for recruitment and retention of students, and alumni development. Direct or assist with a wide variety of on-site and occasional off-site events, including events for students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and other external constituents.
  • Manage the department Alumni Advisory Board to ensure maximum fundraising potential. Collaborate with the Chair to organize meeting agendas and faculty presentations, prepare materials, schedule arrangements and perform follow-up tasks. Collaborate with the College development staff to engage alumni who offer internship opportunities. Coordinate with the department Internship Advisor to procure and develop alumni internship opportunities.
  • Manage special projects as directed by the chair.

    • Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet Department, Executive Area/Division and University goals and objectives.

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in Marketing, Journalism, or Communications).
  • Excellent writing, editing, verbal and interpersonal skills, including the ability to quickly develop and sustain productive relationships with a variety of internal and external constituents.
  • Excellent managerial, negotiation and project management skills.
  • High-level attention to detail with the ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize while maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.
  • Understanding of best practices in existing technologies and the potential of new technologies to advance goals of the position.
  • Knowledge of and experience in current media technology, including desktop publishing, web maintenance, social media, video/photography and a willingness to learn new media technologies as they emerge.
  • Capability to work successfully with diverse populations.
  • Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Experience managing events.
  • Experience with Drupal, basic HTML and CSS coding, Adobe Photoshop, video production and video editing in Premiere or Final Cut.

    Typical office environment.

    Work Schedule

    • Monday - Friday 8:30 am 5:00 pm.
    • This is a 43 week position.
    • On rare occasions, may be required to work nights or weekends.
