Job Summary

The new position will strategically promote the Laboratory of Medical Zoology's (LMZ) services (including popular TickReport tick testing service) to individuals, interest groups and potential partner agencies. That promotion will be principally measured by successful recruitment of service subscribers through engagement of potential partners including local, state and federal health agencies as well as public/private organizations with constituent personnel at risk of exposure to ticks and tick-borne disease (e.g. power companies, schools, etc.). Primary care providers (physician offices, veterinary clinics, and urgent care centers) are also potential targets for recruitment. The incumbent would be responsible for executing marketing and enrollment strategies, cultivating relationships with contracted partners, community organizations, and various at-risk groups involved with outdoor recreational and/or occupation activities. As part of that relationship cultivation, the incumbent will be responsible for communicating feedback from enrolled partners and individual subscribers to LMZ scientific staff to improve services and value added components of the Outreach program. This role works closely with scientific staff and plays a supporting role in strategic planning, organizational development and communications as they relate to ticks and tick-borne disease and specifically the role of tick testing as public health surveillance and risk assessment tool.

Serves as the designated public information officer for the Laboratory of Medical Zoology when the director is not available. This may include arranging site visits by media representatives; attending meetings; establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships with citizens, community partners, employees, and public interest groups. The incumbent will participate in guiding creative processes and managing Laboratory of Medical Zoology (LMZ) digital content, including but not limited to video, social media and photos, in addition to assisting with other communication tasks as needed. This position would also plan, produce, coordinate and release public information and implement communications strategies for LMZ initiatives, projects, programs, and services using social media and traditional media outlets; develop procedures and objectives for community media relations; promote the LMZ through positive media exposure locally, nationally and internationally; develop and implement strategic communication plan that will communicate the LMZ's vision, plans and activities; increase citizen awareness of LMZ programs and opportunities for citizen participation in decision making processes. Content will be relevant to the LMZ's overall communication strategy, and may also relate to special projects assigned by the Director.

Essential Functions

* Interact effectively with multidisciplinary teams and diverse groups of stakeholders. Strong communication skills are essential.
* Provide marketing and enrollment functions to increase partnerships, grow product branding and penetrate into agencies responsible for assessing risk of tick-borne disease to member constituents.
* Serve as a subject expert presenting, promoting and marketing our programs to all interested; including individuals, groups, community organizations, healthcare professionals etc. Develop presentations to various target audiences.
* Cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with contracted partner agencies and primary care site partners.
* Perform all enrollment related activities; such as identifying potential prospects, screening leads to ensure eligibility requirements, negotiating enrollment terms, explaining program options, completing enrollment applications, submitting enrollments to LMZ accounts coordinator.
* Develop a resource map of assigned territory, such as community based organizations, urgent care centers, veterinary clinics, private physician practices, and retailers; cultivates relationships with them and identifies potential partnership opportunities.
* Plan and implement a monthly recruitment action plan and consistently meet and or exceed enrollment and outreach targets.
* Attend and assist with the planning of educational, outreach and other health related events.
* Coordinate and interact with various coordinators in LMZ to ensure customer requests, questions and issues are handled appropriately and in a timely manner.
* Offer recommendations and suggestions for improvements in office, enrollments, marketing practices, etc. to enhance service delivery and customer satisfaction.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Functions

* Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean's strategic priorities.
* Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

* Minimum education required Associate's Degree (in Communications, Marketing or related field of study) with minimum of 1 year of work experience in Communications or Marketing.
* Must be a self-starter with a high level of accountability and responsibility.
* Must possess exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills. Experience in providing public presentations.
* Must be able to meet directly with members, responsible parties and/or providers in office or home settings. This may require periodic travel outside of traditional work hours or long distance travel.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

* Experience creating digital content such as photography, photo editing, videography, video editing, social media, podcasts, and other digital communication tools.
* Experience in sales, marketing and customer service preferred.
* Knowledge of healthcare systems/services and/or experience with community organizations, social services and public resources.
* Ability to work in a multicultural environment and perform outreach related activities in the community.
* Able to work independently as well as within a team environment, be flexible, highly organized and be able to prioritize their work.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, schedule may vary (37.5 hours per week)
