Job Summary

The Human Motion Research Technician functions as a supervisor and coordinator for all research conducted in Center for Human Health and Performance (CH2P). The Technician will instruct and advise faculty, students, and industry partners in the use of the lab equipment. The Technician will assist in the establishment of protocols, keep standard operating procedures up to date, and collect data with human subjects.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure proper functioning and setup of equipment as required by study protocols. This includes Qualisys Oqus cameras, AMTI Force Platforms, Delsys EMG, Biodex Dynamometer, Biopac data recording system, and associated supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with University Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) standards.
  • Maintain a shared lab calendar that avoids scheduling conflicts, as necessitated by specific protocols.
  • Train research assistants and core users on proper equipment use and study acquisition, to meet study requirements as requested.
  • Serve as CH2P contact and representative in communication with current and future industry partners. Provide said partners with expert knowledge regarding the use of technology, study design, data analysis, reporting, and interpretation.
  • Stay current with Biomechanics related measurement and data analysis and suggest new equipment purchases as appropriate.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues as they arise.
  • Manage project staff and hire and schedule staff assistants as needed for contracted projects.
  • Work with Operations Coordinator on matters relating to Core utilization and billing.
  • Develop and maintain human research protocols for facility research projects
  • Attend Core facilities meetings.
  • Work with CH2P Director to develop and maintain the Core Budget.
  • Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • MS or PhD in Kinesiology, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with human subjects research: CITI training
  • Subject matter expertise in the areas of locomotion, posture, EMG, strength and power assessment.
  • Proficiency with C-Motion Visual3D
  • Proficiency with computer programming in Matlab and/or Python
  • Excellent communication skills and capacity to liaise with staff, faculty, students, contractors, and industrialists at all levels.
  • Capacity to troubleshoot technical problems as they arise.
  • Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • PhD in Kinesiology, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience writing scientific manuscripts and technical reports
  • Experience developing and managing a budget.
  • Lab management experience
  • Proficiency in statistics

    The Human Motion Research Technician works under the Director of the CH2P and will receive guidance from the CH2P Advisory Committee.
